Wonder Woman – Volume 6 – 3

Main Story Synopsis

Wonder Woman has travelled to a building in search for Sergeant Steel. The building is advertised as the headquarters of Southhide Defense Industries, but Diana is aware that’s just a facade. This building is the headquarters for A.X.E. and she knows that Steel is inside. She politely asks the receptionist for directions on how to get to Steel’s office, and he reluctantly agrees to point her in the right direction.

As soon as Wonder Woman enters the elevator, she finds a security guard attempting to stop her and is forced to incapacitate him. The elevator reaches the highest floor and soldiers are already waiting for her, but as soon as the door opens, Wonder Woman throws her tiara, which bounces off its targets and knocks them unconscious. With no one left to give her directions, she decides to find Steel’s office by herself.

Wonder Woman has made her way to Steel’s office, only to find him pointing his gun at her. She knows that he has found something important in te Emelie case and wants him to share it with her. They had met each other before this particular confrontation. Apparently, she sneaked into his building before and tried to steal something again, but it came off as rude, so now, she has decided to be polite and just ask him. Steel already knew that Wonder Woman would barge into his building, which he is why tipped off every agency in Washington. Every armed group with enough firepower to take down the Justice League is coming after her.

Wonder Woman already knew that Steel was listening to her conversations with Steve. That’s why he wanted Steve to tell Wonder Woman that they had a lead on Emelie. Steel set this trap for Wonder Woman and says that tiaras and lassos won’t save her. Wonder Woman asks yet again what does Steel know about Emelie and Steve furiously screams that his army is coming after her, but Wonder Woman isn’t concerned, for she has her Invisible Jet.

Realizing he’s been beaten yet again, Steel has no choice but to give Wonder Woman what she wants. He gives her a medical report with information about Emelie and says that his men analyzed the bar in which the massacre took place. They found a small smudge of blood that one of the victims drew from Emelie. According to their analysis, Emelie is pregnant.

Meanwhile, in a large mansion, the Sovereign is informed by his butler that his guest is arrived. The guest in question is a soldier called Delgado and he is waiting for the Sovereign in his office, admiring the Sovereign’s collection, more specifically the gun used by President Lincoln. The Sovereign replies that, for all of the items he has collected, America has a richness that can’t be bought or sold.

As Delgado continues to admire the Sovereign’s direction, the old man asks about Delgado’s mission in Montana. He was part of the small army that fought Wonder Woman and lost. The Sovereign wonders if Delgado felt humiliated, perhaps traumatized, by such defeat, but Delgado doesn’t feel that way. They fought Wonder Woman, after all. Mildly surprised by Delgado’s reaction, the Sovereign decides to show his most prized possession: the Lasso of Lies.

They both hold the black lasso and the Sovereign asks Delgado if his defeat at Wonder Woman’s hands diminished his manhood in some way. The lasso begins to affect to Delgado’s mind and, under its power, he says that yes, the Sovereign is right. Not only that, Delgado feels like he has become something he doesn’t want to be. The Sovereign tells Delgado to tell everyone how he feels and then, end his agony. Delgado returns home, writes a note in which he describes how Wonder Woman took away his rights to live as a man and then commits suicide.

In the future, the imprisoned Sovereign continues to tell the story of his defeat at the hands of Wonder Woman to her daughter, Trinity, including the part about Emelie’s pregnancy. Trinity can only express shock when she faces the possibility of Emelie being her biological mother.
