This issue saw the death of Supergirl. While in modern comics the death of a major character has almost become par for the course nowadays as characters are almost always resurrected and brought back to life soon after, but back then having a character like Kara die was actually quite shocking to fans, who had not been used to seeing major characters actually die. As a result they  began to wonder if other characters may share the same fate before the series was finished. Of course, little did they know that Supergirl’s death was a foreshadowing of Wonder Woman’s own apparent demise.

Synopsis

The last 5 surviving Earths are slowly merging together in limbo as the Antimonitor attempts to destroy them using a solar machine inside his fortress in the antimatter universe, which is causing the merging. Harbinger and Pariah explain the old multiverse’s origins and their roles in the Crisis. The heroes then stop the Antimonitor’s machine, but at the cost of Supergirl sacrificing her life. She damages the Antimonitor’s armor, forcing him to retreat while swearing vengeance. She is given a heroes’ eulogy and private funeral by her cousin Superman (Earth-1). The earths are safe for now.
