In the distant reaches of space, the cosmically powerful android Amazo is continuing his quest to understand his own purpose, following a mysterious voice in his mind. He discovers a quantum vortex which takes the form of a room with cracked mirrored walls and floor. He hears the voice calling to him from beyond the mirrors and attacks the wall with all his might, creating a tiny crack which begins to leak energy from beyond the glass.
On Earth, Martian Manhunter is journeying the world hoping to understand humanity, taking various forms to explore all aspects of the human experience. Although he has tried to separate himself from the League, he often finds himself unconsciously watching them telepathically.
In Metropolis, the Flash’s surpise birthday party at Justice League headquarters is interrupted by attacks from both Granny Goodness and Kalibak. Since the death of Darkseid, Apokolips has been locked in endless civil war, with no faction being able to achieve dominance. They each hope that by destroying the League they can prove they are strong enough to rule. The League fights both groups of invaders while also trying to keep them apart, as a direct confrontation between the two could destroy the planet. Mister Miracle is able to use his Mother Box to reverse the polarity of Granny and Kalibak’s Boom Tubes, sending them back to Apokolips.
That night, Superman is having dinner with Lois Lane, when the stream of energy in the comic vortex accelerates. Superman suddenly transforms into the Overman, who demands to know what has happened
