This was a follow up to the ‘Dark Nights: Metal’ mini series which introduced the Batman Who Laughs character.
This final issue leads into the “Infinite Frontier” soft reboot, which saw DC create the “Omniverse”, effectively making all stories that have ever been told throughout the years canon.
The next two months would see the publishing of several “Future State” titles, depicting new characters taking over the mantle of established characters like Wonder Woman, Superman and Batman. In the case of Diana, this would see a young Brazilian woman named Yara Flor becoming the Amazon champion.
Synopsis
In a final battle, Wonder Woman takes on The Darkest Knight while the combined forces of the heroes and villains attempt to buy her time and hold the line. The Darkest Knight tries to make a bargain with her at the end of time, where all multiverses have been laid to rest. But she refuses to accept, even if it means her own life, and kills him.
The race of beings that perpetua belonged to, and who have been responsible for creating the numerous multiverses over time, converse with Wonder Woman, taking on her Golden Age form. They tell Wonder Woman that each attempt at creating a new universe has resulted in death and destruction and they had considered whether it would be even worth them trying again.
But her actions and belief in truth and goodness have inspired them to try something different. They therefore create an Omniverse, whereby all previous multiverses exist and matter. This includes the creation of a new Elseworld too. Previously dead characters return to life and all things start anew.
The surviving heroes celebrate their victory and toast the seemingly now lost Wonder Woman.
