This four issue mini series was published under DC’s Black Label brand, which was originally launched as a more mature, adult themed imprint. It allowed creators to push the boundaries with their takes on some of DC’s iconic characters.

However, one of the first titles published under the brand, Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo’s Batman: Damned, caused controversy when it depicted Batman’s penis in one panel. As a result of the subsequent media storm this triggered, the Black Label imprint seemed to make an unofficial course correction and morphed into more of an equivalent to DC’s Elseworlds.

‘Wonder Woman: Dead Earth’ was the first story published under the Black Label imprint to feature Wonder Woman and depicts Diana in a post Apocalyptic world following a nuclear war.
