The story starts in the past, when the Nazi’s once tried to invade Paradise Island lead by the super strong Paula von Gunther. But Queen Hippolyta and her Amazons prevailed and while the Nazi troops were exiled on the planet Venus under the guidance of Queen Desira, Paula was shown the error of her ways in the coils of the golden lasso and sent to Reformation Island.
Back in the present day and for several years now her daughter, Diana has used her status to teach the virtues of peace and loving submission to all, which is the female way.
But the American government, fraught with dissension and conflicts foreign to Diana, have now deemed her a danger to society. They fear she is creating tension between the genders and that the Amazons, with all their powers and advanced technology, could use this opportunity to attack and enslave Man’s World, enforcing their way of life on the population.
Doctor Psycho is recruited and uses his influencing skills to slowly win over the trust of Diana and manipulate her to incite an uprising among women against mean, while Maxwell Lord oversees Project A.R.E.S, creating augmented battle suits that the army can use against the Amazons when the war begins. He also triggers Paula to turns on Hippolyta and ripping out her heart, kills the Amazon Queen before escaping the confront Wonder Woman.
They fight and while Diana prevails, she does not kill the murderer of her mother. Wonder Woman, realising that she has been played and that a war is inevitable – just as The Fates foresaw and warned Hippolyta before she died – returns to Paradise Island and anointed as the new ruler, prepares her sisters for the conflict to come.
