We see Rucka reintroduce the villainess he created during his first run to be Diana’s equivalent of Lex Luthor. Veronica Cale was not super powered – but just as dangerous due to her intelligence and deviousness – and her utter hatred of Wonder Woman.
Synopsis
As Etta and Barbara take Diana on a shopping trip, Veronica Cale receives a debrief from her aid via intel secretly being passed to them by Sasha Bordeaux. She hears how Urzkartaga had been neutralised and Cadulo was now in custody. She is most interested however to hear that Wonder Woman cannot find her way back to Paradise Island and that Barbara Minerva has been returned to her human form. The archaeologist is now assisting the Amazon Princess in her search for Themyscira.
Cale instructs that Bordeaux provide every assistance to help the search as it is in their mutual interest that Wonder Woman gets back home.
On the orders of Bordeaux an unwitting Etta provides Barbara access to satellite intelligence. Minerva says that the island is protected by the Gods and an individual has to be allowed to enter. Etta asks if that is the case how did Diana always find it in the past and she relies “I just knew”.
As the hunt continues Diana and Steve spend some quiet tie together on the beach and rekindle their feelings for each other. They then get a call to return to base as Barbara may have found something. When they are all reconvened Minerva tells them that she knows of a place where the physical may still be linked to the divine and gives the the coordinates of the island she had discovered a while ago (see previous issue).
Wonder Woman and Steve fly to the island and explore what seems at first a barren land. But suddenly she hears a voice call her name and surprised she turns to find her mother, Hippolyta standing there together with the other Amazons!
