This three part story by Christopher Priest was deemed quite controversial at the time, as it placed Diana in a very difficult and moral dilemma not normally touched upon by writers. Some fans felt the story was inappropriate and not befitting for the character.

Priest had already been a guest writer  in the main Wonder Woman title (issues 88, 89137 and 138) and the latter two issues had again polarised fans due to their portrayal of Diana trying to save her mother, Hippolyta, from a fantasy world of happiness created by Circe. Fans had also felt at the time that his version of Diana behaved out of character and that Priest simply did not “get” Diana at all, so when it was announced he was writing this three part story in “Legends of the DC Universe” it was met with dismay in some quarters.
