Synopsis

Reena tells the league how she used to work for a corporation called Repli-Tech that was on the verge of bankruptcy. The head of the corporation, Rex Rogan told the board members that Doctor Lovecraft had developed a DNA reformulation that turns a human into a half beast but gives them amazing power. He persuades the board, including Reene (Irena), to take the treatment and with their new found power stole money and having turning the company’s fortunes around, Rogan – now calling himself Maximus holds tournaments where humans are forced to fight creatures to the death. Reena had become sickened by the blood sports and had made a run for it.

Hawkgirl however is unconvinced and believes Reena to be a plant, especially when they then get an emergency call from a hospital back down on Earth that informs them Hawkman is in a critical condition after having been stung by one of the creatures.

Hawkgirl and Wonder Woman travel down to check on his condition, but while there are attacked by Maximus’s goons and are taken down. Together with the still weak Hawkman, they are taken as hostages and Maximus threatens to turn them into creatures unless the JLA return Reena to him.

But a furious Superman says they do not negotiate with terrorists and that he vows the league will bring him down.
