Synopsis

Diana Prince is working in her office when she gets a distress call from Steve Trevor asking for Wonder Woman’s help. Quickly changing and flying off in her robot plane, lassoing Steve from an airfield and pulling him aboard. He tells her they need to go to the Desert of the Sphinx’s in order to prevent a space capsule from crash landing in the desert. Rushing there in her super-sonic jet, Wonder Woman helps redirect the capsule into the nearby bay where it is safely recovered.

Deciding to take some time to visit this new land, Wonder Woman and Steve walks it’s markets. There an old shop keeper points out that Wonder Woman resembles an ancient ruler of the land named Queen Mirka. He tells them of an old prophecy that foretells that upon the return of the queen the Sphinxes in the desert would come back to life. Dismissing this as local superstition, and Wonder Woman’s uncanny resemblance to Queen Mirka a coincidence the couple decides to travel the desert on camels. To their surprise, when they pass the legendary sphinx, the stone structure comes to life and knocks Steve out. Using mystical rays to make Wonder Woman feel numb, the sphinx takes her prisoner, thinking that she is Queen Mirka. As per their masters instructions before her slumber, she had ordered the sphinxes to rise up and take over all the lands around the desert.

To Wonder Woman’s surprise other sphinx like structures come to life to carry out this goal as well, and easily fight off the local air force that attempts to stop them. Trying to get these creatures to destroy themselves, Wonder Woman tricks two of the sphinxes to fight each other. This plot works in destroying at least one of them, but not swaying their mission of conquest. Returning to the queen’s temple, the sphinx creatures are surprised to see that the true Queen Mirka had remain undiscovered and use their powers to revive her. Wonder Woman reveals her true identity to Queen Mirka and begs her to cast off her goals of conquest. Mirka refuses and orders her faithful minions to trap Wonder Woman in a pyramid made of the remains of their destroyed comrade. They comply and then go off to take over the world. Wonder Woman, however, manages to break free and uses the block to reassemble the sphinx that was destroyed earlier.

Thankful at being granted a second life, the sphinx agrees to help Wonder Woman, fighting his former comrades until they are all destroyed. Furious Queen Mirka battles Wonder Woman, however, the ages catch up to the would be conqueror and she begins to rapidly age until she crumbles to dust. With the threat of Queen Mirka over with, Wonder Woman picks up Steve Trevor and they return to the United States, Wonder Woman telling him she’s had her fill of the mysteries of the world for now.
