This six-issue series by the late Darwyn Cooke was influenced by previous works such as Kingdom Come, Watchmen, and Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. It takes place primarily in the 1950s, and depicts the Golden Age superheroes Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman meeting Silver Age characters the Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter. The story bridges the gap from the end of the Golden Age to the beginning of the Silver Age in the DC Universe.

Synopsis

J’onn J’onzz arrives on Earth, while Superman investigates what Wonder Woman has been up to in Indo-China. J’onn J’onzz studies Earth culture through television and takes on the role of police detective John Jones in Gotham City in 1955.

Time passes, and in Central City police scientist Barry Allen is struck by lightning, the Russians launch Sputnik, and Eisenhower ramps up the space race. In Gotham City in 1957, John Jones and Slam Bradley’s attempt to break up a cult dedicated to “The Centre” involves an encounter with Batman and the confiscation of a large, sealed book.

In Las Vegas, retired masked man Ted Grant boxes against the young contender Clay. When Captain Cold crashes the party afterwards, The Flash crosses the country to stop him. Later, Ace Morgan and Hal Jordan discuss life after combat, and Ace tells Hal he has lined up a meeting for Hal at Ferris Aircraft.
