Four part mini-series following on from the aftermath of the Dark Metal event. This final issues leads into a three new Justice League titles: Justice League, Justice League Dark and and Justice League Odyssey.
As the Green Lanterns do their best to try and at least slow down the breach in the source wall Green Arrow’s message finally gets through to Hal, warning them that the Omega Titans are about to destroy the Earth.
Back in the Antarctic Waller berates Green Lantern from preventing her nuking the seed while they still had the chance and that they need to get back to Belle Vue to arrange for the largest nuclear weapons on the planet to be dropped on the ever growing trees.
On Brainiac’s ship, now surrounded by the refugee fleet and what remains of the planet Colu, Cyborg informs the league that he cannot repair the ships systems to enable them to get back to Earth in time. They reach out to Vril, asking for his help as he can easily repair the ship but he refuses, telling them that the league created this mess and that they and the Earth deserve everything coming to them. He then teleports to Earth leaving them stranded. But as hope begins to fade amongst many of them Martian Manhunter tells them all that they now need to change their approach to things and think bigger. Brainiac may have known how the heroes would react and played them, but even he could not have foreseen Starro, their sworn enemy, sacrificing himself of them in the way that he did. So they need to be what they never though they could…what Brainiac could never have imagined of them.
Brainiac arrives on Earth and attaches devices to all four trees to accelerate their growth. He next travels to Belle Vue just as Waller and Green Arrow arrive and he tries to assassinate the director, but Hal Jordan and the other Green Lanterns arrive and stop him. Waller then prepares to order the nuclear strike against Oliver’s will but juts as she is about to press the button the Justice League arrive, after Cyborg uses his mother book to accelerate the ship to incredible speeds to get them back in time.
The teams spread out to their respective trees again but discover the devices that Vril has placed on them. Their previous strategy to balance the energies between the tress had ended in failure so they realises that they need to do something different this time. They realise that Brainiac’s original plan would have been hacked by Task Force XI and Green Arrow persuades a reluctant Waller to upload everything they stole from Brainiac’s mind into Cyborg.
He instructs the teams to first remove the devices and drain their trees. Then, the planet’s dominant force will cause its tree to to bear a new seed to be eaten by the the Titan. They need to charge that seed with all four emerges and feed it to they Entropy Titan. His brothers, who are starving, will then turn on him and devour his energies. The meal should placate their hunger for the next millennia.
As the seed, now charged with Wisdom by Cyborg, is passed to each team to be further charged, Wonder Woman finds that it is her who has the ability to charge the Wonder seed. She does not understand why and Raven says that perhaps that is for another time.
As Martian Manhunter charges it with mystery and Lex charges it with Entropy, Green Lantern creates a crossbow for Green Arrow to fire the seed directly into the Entropy Titan. Sure enough the other Titans turn on him and devouring him they finally vanish, now fully fed.
As the heroes and villains dwell on the recent events Martian Manhunter says that the Universe has changed and has become bigger, wilder and more dangerous. Old assumptions about the Multiverse and about each other must change for the better..or worse. He reads Lex’s mind and sees that he intends to leave the league. Luthor tells him that the world needs Entropy not Justice and that their paths will cross again someday – perhaps sooner than he thinks.
Later in the Batcave, Batman summons Black Lightning and tells him that as well as Vril, Waller has also escaped taking all of Brainiac’s secrets with her. They will need a new team to deal with things the Justice League cannot handle in public.
Elsewhere Martian Manhunter secretly gives Green Arrow a small box and says that he is being entrusted with the tools to take down the Justice League should they ever go rogue. He tells a stunned Oliver that the league is changing and if they step too far they will need someone honourable who can stop them.
As Wonder Woman and Zatanna stand at the foot of the Wonder Tree Diana tells her that all four trees remained even after Cyborg deactivated them, as if someone of something is keeping them here as beacons. Raven asks her beacons for what and Diana replies that she is unsure. But she knows that she is connected to the tree somehow, to the entire magical universe. So sh is going to need people who can find answers in the dark.
As Martian Manhunter is appointed the new leader of the league, the heroes contemplate what awaits them in the future…
