This was a special giant sized series exclusive to Walmart stores in the United States, featuring reprints from the New 52 series Justice League #1, Aquaman #1 and Flash #1.
Interestingly however, instead of also featuring Brian Azzarello’s New 52 version of Diana, this inaugural issue had a brand new Wonder Woman story based on the Rebirth version. Perhaps DC felt that his interpretation of the iconic character was too far removed from how they wanted to promote the Amazon Princess going forward.
Synopsis
Steve and Wonder Woman are running a mercy mission in a war torn country when Ares arrives and tries to convince Diana that she is also a warrior born and bred at heart and almost manages to seduce her to his dark ways.
But as a rebel soldier sees an opportunity to kill her while she is distracted and takes aim with his rocket propelled launcher, the archway he is crouching under begins to collapse on top of him and this snaps Wonder Woman out of her trance.
She rushes to save the rebel who is stunned that his enemy would care about him so much. Seeing she is a lost cause Ares flees and Wonder Woman and Steve shepherd the survivors to safety, with the Amazon Princess vowing she will change hearts and minds – even if it is one soul at a time.
