This issue formed part of the five part mini event “The Witching Hour”.

The story started in Wonder Woman Justice League Dark – The Witching Hour #1, continued in Wonder Woman #56 and this issue, then continued in Wonder Woman #57 and concluded in Justice League Dark – Wonder Woman: The Witching Hour #1.

Wonder Woman uses her new powers to create a portal to Nanda Parbat, the fabled city where Rama Kusha guides those from the living world to the after-life – and which now finds itself under attack by a possessed Manitou Dawn. But as the Justice League Dark arrive, Zatanna, John and Swamp Thing are all concerned that Diana is deluding herself into thinking she has full control of magic she does not understand. Like an ant trying to control the ocean. Nevertheless they follow her as she prepares to confront Hecate.

In the city meanwhile, Rama Kushna defends herself and tries to stop Manitou. As Hecate arrives to support her “drone”, Rama asks why the Witch Goddess is defiling the city and that they have always coexisted in peace. Hecate replies that magic has become foul and she intends to burn it from the world and replace it with something better. And Rama stands in her way.

As she instructs Manitou to unleash her full power, Rama finds herself defended by Wonder Woman. An enraged Hecate snarls that the Amazon Princess dare use her own power against her and a battle breaks out between Wonder Woman, Hecate and Manitou Dawn.

As the resulting carnage begins to bring the city down around them, Swamp Thing uses the plant vines to try and hold the buildings together for as long as possible while Deadman tells Rama that she must evacuate while she still can. She reluctantly does so as the other league members help the rest of the surviving monks escape. As Bobo creates another portal for them to walk through Zatanna says she and John are staying behind to help Diana.

Deadman advises Zee that she clearly has no plan and is making things up as she goes along and the magician simply replies “duly noted”.

Realising that Rama has escaped in the confusion, Hecate sends Manitou dawn after her. Meanwhile Swamp Thing sense that Black Orchid is attacking the magical Parliament of Trees and realises he must leave and stop her.

Wonder Woman asks Hecate that it is just the two of them now but as she attacks again the Goddess orders her to obey the Witch-Mark and in a blast of magical energy Diana is sent flying across the city. As Zatanna and John emerge from cover and are horrified to see that Wonder Woman is now transformed into a  full servant of Hecate, who orders her to kill them!

“Yes Witch-Mother” she replies…
