Tempest is shocked awake suddenly at Titans Tower, muttering “Atlantis”. Batman has arrived and needs his help with something. Meanwhile, at the Watchtower, Martian Manhunter has completed a psychic scan of Green Lantern; despite Kyle’s worries, his mind has not been influenced by the shaman, and Martian Manhunter is confident that Kyle will recover.

On Atlantis, Ocean Master and Black Manta are attempting to conquer the kingdom – against the best efforts of the Justice League. Ocean Master’s magic harpoon allows him to use the water to beat back the heroes, but Garth arrives and uses his magic to cow Ocean Master. With the site secured, The Justice League bring in a team of experts – Doc Magnus, Sebastian Faust, Doctor Fate, the Atom, Blue Devil, Doctor Occult, Ragman – to deduce what has happened. Martian Manhunter convinces Green Lantern to replicate a Martian device to corral all the streams of information in people’s heads. The League uses this to give some explanations – during the fight against Imperiex, Aquaman fought a humanoid weapon which exploded in Poseidonis. In response, Tempest cast an emergency spell which sent all of Atlantis to a safe haven 3000 years into the past – at least in theory. The destruction of the city was unintended, and apparently the result of a new containment spell in the past. The Atom then informs them that they have discovered something in one pool – someone carved ‘JLA’ in giant letters on the bottom of the pool, while it was full, with their bare hands. Tempest is now convinced that someone else must go back in time to rescue Atlantis.

At a brief conference, the League discusses their course: Wonder Woman, Flash, and Superman want to go; Batman wants more research, Plastic Man is opposed to the idea altogether, and Green Lantern, is being bombarded with images of the League dead, and does not want to go. However, they decide to go, based on Superman’s argument. Tempest and the magical heroes prepare to send them back, but something goes wrong (unbeknownst to the League). Green Lantern becomes more hesitant, shouting “I see them dying!” The heroes charge in anyway, but Batman responds by getting the Watchtower to acknowledge deep command Omega Gabriel Alpha.

As the heroes vanish, the mysterious force releases the magicians. They are shocked at the purity of the magic that attacked them, sending the heroes to some unknown location. Meanwhile, deep underground, something with inhuman eyes is awaking…
